Learning Dutch by diving into the city

Game • Brussels • Dutch

The question

Huis van het Nederlands (Dutch Language House) asked Josworld to come up with a name, design a branding and create a communication strategy for their new online city game.

Plonge is an app, created to bring Brussels youth closer to Dutch-speaking culture in a fun and casual way.

We loved it from the start.

What’s in a name?

Plonge was chosen as the name. A playful name that aligns perfectly with the existing offline offer. The story goes like this: “Plonge means diving. You only need a basic understanding of Dutch, but you have to take the leap. Dive into a world of action and adventure and discover the opportunities the Dutch language offers in Brussels.”

What did we know?

The web developers already made a draft version of the app. Apart from the content, color palette and typography, nothing was decided.

The challenge

We further differentiated our target audience, consisting of ‘youngsters’, in collaboration with the Dutch language house. By discovering nuances and identifying the right personas, we were able to develop the right strategy. We did some testing and gathered feedback, providing a solid foundation for the communication campaign.
